Today's Backyard Firepits

Firepits have come a long way in the last decade. Gone are the days when fire pits were merely holes dug in the ground, replaced by modern gas-fueled features.

If you were going to a bonfire 'back-in-the-day,' you'd typically find yourself huddled around a fire hole or circular structure where a controlled fire was fueled by wood and other flammable debris. As our outdoor living has evolved and become more sophisticated, so too has the firepit. They are often the focal point to the outdoor seating area and, when surrounded by sofas and comfy chairs, are the ideal gathering spot to relax and socialize.

There are several options when considering a fire feature. Today's functioning fire features can be as unique as the owners who envision them or as traditional as a classic wood-burning pit of days gone by. One variety to consider and that we’ve seen homeowners increasing incorporate to their lounge areas are fire tables. At coffee table height, it's often designed with a stone tile tabletop and a concrete or metal base, fueled by gas. It's convenient and easy to own and operate. A newer trend has been a move towards fire bowls, woks or pots. They are a great middle of the road option between a built-in fire pit and a fire table. Pre-made of concrete and filled with lave rack, colored fiberglass, or other dire-retardant decorative filler. They're often placed strategically to provide light and ambiance.

If you're unable to find the perfect option to incorporate fire in your outdoor living space, creating a custom option is always a viable option. A conventional fire 'bowl' can take on a different shape, or a fire pit can be installed directly into the patio. Your imagination only limits the possibilities.
