Outdoor living is the only type you do in the summer; however, there are many times when the invasion of mosquitos, fly's and other insects prohibit you and your family from enjoying it thoroughly.
One of the worst things you contend within the summer is bug repellent. Coming in from a night outdoors lathered in chemical sprays and lotion leaves you feeling less than your best. However, there are other ways to get rid of those pesky insects without the use of chemicals. You have probably tried a few of them; citronella candles and bug zappers have been around for years, but you can take it a step further by adding plants that are known to repel bugs.
Natural bug repellents are the answer to all those smelly bug sprays. Border your outdoor living space with planters full of natures repellents like rosemary, and you'll find a fragrance far more pleasant for your family and guests.
Rosemary isn't the only useful herb when it comes to keeping the bugs at bay. Lavender's pale purple flowers give off a beautiful aroma known to reduce anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness. It's this exact scent that flies, moths, and mosquitos find offensive. Planting sprigs of rosemary, lavender, and basil in small planters dispersed along the edges of your common areas will not only keep the bugs away; it adds beauty and natural perfume to your living space. You can also use basil, which kills mosquito eggs, along with peppermint that repels ants and spiders for your window boxes and along with your patio too.
If you need more bang for your bugs, eucalyptus trees have a powerful fragrance and not only keeps the bugs away the oil for the tree kills mites, whiteflies, and sand flies. Another option is the camphor tree, which works like a big citronella candle. Repelling mosquitos isn't the only thing this tree does; its green foliage is stunning and is a great anchor to your outdoor landscape.
Go all-natural with your outdoor living space by utilizing herbs and trees that ward off the annoying insects and flying bugs. It’s ok to throw that bug repellent away!
