Outdoor Lighting Tips You Need to Know

Are you trying to make the most of your Akron, OH home? Want it to be as beautiful outside as it is inside? Well, that all comes down to landscaping. And, really, don’t you want your landscaping to look as good at night as it does during the day?

If you answered yes to that question, then you need to invest in some good outdoor lighting. But, before you do that, consider these helpful tips.

ALWAYS ADD IN AMBIENT LIGHTING

To start with, always make sure you add in some soft, ambient lighting. This is often referred to as “general” lighting because it helps you see when you’re actually out in your yard. This type of lighting might include hanging lights, post lights, and in-wall or in-structure lighting, or perhaps even some combination of all of these types of lighting. No matter how you achieve it, it’s necessary and can also be quite lovely.

TAKE CAREFUL MEASUREMENTS

Before you plan for any kind of lighting additions, take careful measurements of your outdoor space. Know the size of the area as a whole, since this will let you know how much light you’ll need. Also know the size of each space where you want to put a light or fixture. That way, you won’t accidentally buy a lighting item that’s too big or too small for its intended spot.

LIGHT FOR SAFETY

Finally, remember that as much as you want your outdoor lighting to be pretty, you also need it to be safe and functional. Make sure all areas where it’s easy to trip, like on stairs or uneven ground, are very well-lit. Also, be sure entry and exit ports are well-lit too.

Outdoor lighting can be quite beautiful if you know what you’re doing. And, by following these tips, you’re certainly off to a great start!
